I am a home educating mum of two boys living in Birmingham. My young boys are lucky enough to have quick and easy access to three amazing green spaces where we live – in fact you could say they’re spoilt for choice.
Our boys have attended weekly forest school sessions, volunteered at Handsworth Park community garden and participated in junior Parkrun amongst other activities.
The list would be far too long were I to enumerate all that they have learnt and gained from their time spent in these local green spaces.
My hope is that Birmingham City Council continues to value our green/natural spaces and invests more in making them more accessible to one and all.
We also need to make them welcoming to local wildlife by creating more wildlife friendly features such as leaving some spaces to grow wild for our bees and other beneficial insects.
