Highbury Park in the Snow

I had a wonderful morning walking through Highbury Park and Cannon Hill when it was covered in a blanket of snow back in January.

Early in the morning it was so serene and magical – I felt so lucky to be experiencing it and that it was on my doorstep. I took so many pictures as I wanted to stop and take it all in. So often we forget to appreciate the things around us but on this day the beauty around me made me so happy.

It was the week that I had planned to go skiing on holiday but obviously the pandemic put a stop to that. Instead, the snow came to Moseley and I couldn’t have enjoyed the day more.

The green spaces in cities are so important – we are lucky to have so many in Birmingham but they lack funding and there needs to be more education and awareness campaigns so that they get the respect they deserve. It’s upsetting to see litter, vandalism and graffiti in our open spaces – it stops them looking their best and it’s not good for well-being.

We need to show them more love. It’s heartening to see so many people volunteering their time, but national and local government need to step up too so that these green spaces are properly looked after.
